Strong Wind Creates Problems in Guria, Western Georgia
Strong wind has inflicted damage to several municipalities of the Guria region in western Georgia.
Ozurgeti City Hall reports that the wind unroofed houses and uprooted trees in several villages of the municipality. A number of families have also been left without electricity because the wind damaged transmission lines.
Konstantine Sharashenidze, the Mayor of Ozurgeti, accompanied the employees of the City Hall Infrastructure Service to the sites. According to him, a special commission has been set up which will calculate the damage after the wind has died down.
“Strong wind unroofed several multi-colony buildings in the villages of Naruja and Nasakirali, and uprooted trees damaged infrastructure and gas pipes. Problems have been created in the villages Mtispiri and Nagomari, and houses were damaged in Ozurgeti,” the Mayor’s Office of Ozurgeti stated, adding that at present the wind is not so violent.
The wind and rain also hit Lanchkhuti and Chokhatauri. A number of houses in Kokhnari village were left without roofs. In the village of Jvartskhma, the roof of the administrative building was destroyed.
Two villages – Zomleti and Khidistavi- were left without the electricity. According to Chokhatauri Mayor Irakli Kuchava, "Energo-Pro Georgia" groups are working to solve the problem. He said the City Hall's services are mobilized in the disaster areas and are studying the situation there.
Electricity problems were also reported in Lanchkhuti where strong wind uprooted trees and left private houses without roofs.
“We will calculate the inflicted damage from tomorrow,” the Mayor’s Office of Lanchkhuti stated.
