Number of Tourists in Georgia Up by 33% in March
Georgia’s National Tourism Administration (GNTA) reports that a total of 578,514 international travelers visited Georgia in March 2018 of which 292,017 were tourists, which is 33% more compared to the data of the previous year.
The largest number of visitors in March 2018 came from Azerbaijan – 133,448 travelers, Armenia – 109,371, Turkey – 100,721, Russia – 91,529 and Iran – 58,828 travelers.
A positive trend was also maintained from the European Union countries. Notable increase was registered from the United Kingdom +74%, Germany +47%, Latvia +45%, Lithuania +35% and France +25%.
Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Israel +78%, China +62%, Iran +46%, India +43% and USA +35%.
In January – March, 2018 the number of international arrivals in Georgia amounted to 1,463,561, showing an increase of 15.5% compared to the same period of previous year. Out of the total number of visits, 659,338 lasted longer than 24 hours (+28.2%). The majority of foreign travelers were Azerbaijani (-3.9%), Armenian (+15.8%), Turkish (+21.8%), Russian (+25.5%) and Iranian (+63.9%).
A positive trend in arrivals was also observed among citizens of the European Union countries. A notable increase was registered of Spanish +79%, British +53%, Dutch +46%, German +27% and French +24% travelers. Exceptional growth in arrivals was recorded of citizens of the following countries: Kuwait +127%, Saudi Arabia +82%, Israel +77% Iran +64% and China +56%.
