38 Members of Georgian Criminal Gang Arrested in France, Greece
As a result of the joint cooperation of Greek, Georgian and French law enforcement agencies, 38 members of a Georgian criminal gang were detained in Greece and France during specail operations carried out on April 16-17.
The information was released by Mamuka Chelidze, Head of the Main Division of the Fight against Organized Crimes of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Chelidze specified that 15 members of the transnational organized criminal group were arrested in France, including 14 Georgians and 1 citizen of Armenia; while 23 citizens of Georgia were arrested in Greece. They are accused of robbing apartments and shops and selling the stolen goods.
“Operative-investigative actions are being carried out for the purpose of detaining and arresting other members of an organized criminal group,” he said.
Chelidze added that among the detained criminals, 4 are the so called thieves-in-law.
Georgian actor and singer, Kakha Abuashvili, also known as Kabu, is also among the detained criminals. He was arrested during the special operation conducted in France.
