517 New HIV/AIDS Cases Revealed in Georgia
The Center for Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology of Georgia reports that as of October 1, 2018, a total of 517 new cases of HIV/AIDS had been reported in Georgia, up 49 compared to last year, 468.
By August 22, there were 433 new cases which means that since then, 84 new cases have been recorded.
In total 7,283 HIV/AIDS infected persons are registered in Georgia, 5,445 are men and 1,838 -women. The majority of infected people are from 29 to 39 years old. Of the total number, AIDS has developed in 3,797 patients, while 1,477 people have died.
Most cases of HIV/AIDS are registered in Tbilisi - 2,662 cases, 89 among these patients are foreign citizens; In Samegrelo - 924 cases, Imereti - 906, Adjara – 818, breakaway Abkhazia - 461, Kakheti - 350, Kvemo Kartli - 378, Shida Kartli - 272, Guria - 155, Poti - 110, Samtskhe-Javakheti – 102.
The Center for Infectious Diseases, AIDS and Clinical Immunology says that the main cause of the infection increase is late diagnosis.
