Police to Start Testing Drivers for Marijuana from April

Georgian patrol police officers will begin checking drivers specifically for the use of marijuana using a special test kit from April 2019.

The information was confirmed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Georgia.

The special test kit is visually similar to that for alcohol and will be distributed to patrol police officers next year. Georgia is currently holding negotiations with a European country regarding the introduction of tests on marijuana in Georgia.

Earlier this month, Parliament approved amendments to the Law on Marijuana Consumption, which regulates the field and sets some boundaries for the consumption of cannabis.

The law implies a number of regulations on the use of marijuana and introduces restrictions, in particular with regard to areas, age limit, and popularization.
