More MPs Leave Ruling Georgian Dream
Ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party was quit by majority MPs Gia Zhorzholiani and Mirian Tsiklauri on March 4.
The information was released by Zhorzholiani, who announced that they will join the opposition party Alliance of Patriots of Georgia (APG).
“Mirian Tsiklauri and I will continue activities within the united parliamentary faction, together with the APG. This fraction will be the Alliance of the Georgian Patriots and Social Democrats. The new fraction is starting its work in the Parliament from today,” MP Gia Zhorzholiani said.
In late February, senior MP of GD, Zviad Kvachantiradze also quit the majority. He announced he was joining three other MPs - Eka Beselia, Levan Gogichaishvili and Gedevan Popkhadze, who quit the GD two weeks ago.
Since the prominent members of the ruling party quit, GD lost its constitutional majority in the legislative body, as it is left 108 chairs and 113 is necessary to have a constitutional majority in the 150-member parliament.
