Opposition Party Leader Released from Courtroom

Guram Chalagashvili, a leader of the opposition party “Victorious Georgia,” has been released from the courtroom after being detained for 12 hours.

The reason behind the above was the lack of evidence presented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Accordingly, the court trial was canceled.

The MIA reported today that a member of Victorious Georgia has been arrested on charges of minor hooliganism.

“Patrol police officers stopped a car in Tbilisi on Kavtaradze Street for verification. The driver's accompanying passenger – G. Ch, born in 1977, expressed aggression towards law enforcers and violated public order. Subsequently, he was detained on charges of minor hooliganism under Article 166 of the Criminal Code of Georgia,” the Interior Ministry said.

The opposition political party Victorious Georgia was founded in June 2019 by politician Irakli Okruashvili, who held different posts during the United National Movement (UNM) government. He was arrested on July 25, 2019, on charges of participating in group violence on June 20-21 Rally in front of Parliament and currently is in custody.
