Co-founder of Mtavari Arkhi TV Accused of Obstructing Justice

Giorgi Rurua, one of the founders and shareholders of opposition-minded Mtavari Arkhi TV, who was arrested on November 18 for illegal possession and carrying of a firearm, has been accused of obstructing the Tbilisi City Court’s decision, the Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office announced today. 

Giorgi Rurua refused to give DNA and fingerprint samples, his lawyers also attended the procedure, said Prosecutor’s Office.

The next hearing has been scheduled for January 9, 2020. Rurua’s defense lawyer Dimitri Sadzaglishvili said he will appeal the verdict. 

Illegal possession and carrying of a firearm is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to three years.
