Georgian President Pardons Nine Female Prisoners

Georgian  President Salome Zurabishvili has pardoned nine female prisoners in relation to the Holy Annunciation Day (Khareba), the President's Administration reports.

"The President issued the Pardon Act in connection with the Feast of the Annunciation," the statement said.

"All convicts have one or more minor children, and the crimes committed by them do not fall into the category of violent crimes. All nine convicts will leave prison today," the statement further reads. 

Today, April 7, the Georgian Orthodox Church is celebrating Holy Annunciation Day (Khareba).

The Khareba holiday celebrates the primary annunciation that was made by Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary about the birth of Jesus Christ.
