FAIReconomics: Ivanishvili Distinguished Donor in Fight Against COVID-19

FAIReconomics is yet another leading international edition that has highlighted Georgian businessman and politician Bidzina Ivanishvili's contribution in the fight against COVID-19.

"Many well-known philanthropists have donated and financially assisted their countries in the fight against the new coronavirus, however, one person, Bidzina Ivanishvili, is especially distinguished among them, primarily due to the fact that his name is relatively unknown to the rest of the world," reads the article recently published by FAIReconomics.

"As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, many critics point out that states have a wrong isolationist policy and are trying to deal with the problem independently, and that governments have banned the transfer of medical supplies to other countries in need. The EU, in particular, is not doing well in this regard. On the one hand, there is isolationism and independent management of the situation, on the other hand, there is a great readiness to help other countries. In parallel with the usual neighborhood assistance, several billionaires have appeared around the world who have been involved in the fight against the virus and funded various support projects around the world.

"Bidzina Ivanishvili is a Georgian businessman who was the Prime Minister of this former Soviet Republic in 2012-2013. He topped the new table, as the amount allocated by him per capita is the largest in the world. The 64-year-old entrepreneur owns 4.5 billion euros, which is one-third of Georgia's gross domestic product (GDP). He transferred $30 million to the Anti-Virus Fund. His son Bera is a famous rapper in Georgia," the publication further reads.

His successor, Giorgi Gakharia, the current Prime Minister of Georgia, told FAIReconomics that for many decades Bidzina Ivanishvili has supported Georgian state and state institutions with his philanthropy.

"Bidzina Ivanishvili’s philanthropy has supported the Georgian State and Institutions for several decades while providing enormous assistance for the preservation of the Georgian cultural identity. The fight against the Covid-19 pandemic is no exception. Yet again, Bidzina Ivanishvili has demonstrated great support and compassion for his fellow Georgians, in the face of a common threat,” he said.

Recently, three other leading international editions, Barron's, The Telegraph and Daily Express have also praised Ivanishvili's donation in their articles.
