Coronavirus: Of 45 New Cases, 23 Related to Adjara Region

Marina Ezugbaia, the Medical Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, has clarified details of the sources of the 45 new coronavirus cases detected in Georgia today, which is a record high daily number for the country. 

In her words, 23 of the 45 newly detected cases are related to the Adjara region, while the source of infection of 3 patients is unknown.

"We have 45 new cases detected in the last 24 hours and 1729 confirmed cases so far. Of 45 infected people, 3 are from the confectionery 'Dona' cluster in Batumi, 19 are contacts of confirmed patients, 4 are medical staff from Aversi Clinic, 4 cases are imported, 1 is a truck driver, and 12 people have travel history in Adjara. We have 3 cases for which the source is not confirmed and epidemiological studies are ongoing. Out of the 45 confirmed cases, 23 are related to Adjara, and 5 cases are related to a large-scale wedding in Tbilisi.

"The number of recoveries increased by only 6, reaching 1321. The recovery rate is 76%,” she said.

45 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Georgia during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number to 1729.

Currently, there are 363 active cases of coronavirus in Georgia.
