Ezugbaia on COVID-19: Adjara a Hotspot, but Situation Gradually Improving

Marina Ezugbaia, the Medical Director of the Tbilisi Infectious Diseases Hospital, spoke about the current epidemiological situation in Georgia, noting that the seaside Adjara region remains a hotspot in terms of COVID-19 spread, but the situation is gradually improving in the region.

At the same time, the daily number of infected people has not increased and ranges from 152 to 196.

"The number of infected people started to increase in September and we are fluctuating between 152 and 196. In August, we were carrying out about 7,000 tests per day, and today, as far as I know, this number has doubled. With this data, Georgia remains in the “green zone"," said Ezugbaia.

She once again called on the public to abide by the regulations, wear face masks and practice social distancing. 

As of September 21, 193 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Georgia and the number of infected people reached 3695.

The number of recoveries has increased by 40 and reached 1534.

Coronavirus has claimed the lives of 20 patients in the country. The death of the 20th patient was reported today. 

The deceased was 60 years old woman who had been transferred from occupied Abkhazia.

Currently, there are 2141 active cases in Georgia.
