Tinatin Berdzenishvili Appointed Director General of Georgia's Public Broadcaster
The Acting CEO of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) Tinatin Berdzenishvili has been appointed as the Director General of the channel.
The Board of Trustees of the Public Broadcaster elected Berdzenishvili as the Director General through the open ballot.
Her candidacy was supported by eight members of the Board of Trustees.
The position became vacant following the resignation of former Director General Vasil Maglaperidze on August 18.
"Even though I am fully convinced that the First Channel will cover the upcoming elections and all other political processes impartially, I decided to resign in order to prevent any doubts about the channel's impartiality”, Maglaperidze said in his statement about his resignation.
Tinatin Berdzenishvili, Irma Sokhadze, Khatuna Lagazidze and Alexander Vakhtangov participated in the second round of the competition. However, Vakhtangov withdrew his candidacy and supported Berdzenishvili.
Khatuna Lagazidze received 1 vote, while none of the members of the Board of Trustees supported Irma Sokhadze's candidacy.
