Opposition UNM Demands Meeting with Central Election Commission Head
Members of the opposition party, United National Movement (UNM,) demanded a meeting with the Head of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Tamar Zhvania.
The UNM claims that the local elections are underway amid claims of serious violations.
Zaza Bibilashvili, UNM member, says that at present 100 complaints have been registered by them in Tbilisi, and 200 in other regions.
“The main problem is that ruling Georgian Dream followers are located beyond the registration boards and write down the information of those who were instructed by them to arrive and vote by proxy. The CEC Head has not responsed to these allegations, and we demand to meet with her,” said Bibilashvili.
The same problem was underlined by the Non-Governmental Organization Transparency International – Georgia, which stated that at nearly all polling stations, each election party stands at the registry and writes down the voters who registered.
"Representatives of the Georgian Dream and Left Alliance are most active in this regard,” Transparency International stated, adding this gives them the opportunity to obtain personal information about the voters.
