Georgia to Host Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships 2023

Georgia’s ski resorts Bakuriani and Gudauri will host the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in 2023.

The information was posted on the official of the FIS Freestyle skiing.

“Bakuriani (GEO) was unanimously elected to host the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships 2023.  It marks the first time in the history of FIS that Georgia will host a World Championship and with more than 25 medal events planned, it is sure to be an eventful World Championships,” the information reads.

The decision was made at the FIS Council Congress 2018 at Costa Navarino in Greece.

The ceremony was also attended by Georgia’s Minister of Culture and Sports, Mikheil Giorgadze.

“I cannot even tell you how happy and proud I am of my country. Let me express my deepest gratitude to the FIS council and their decision. I believe this is a great opportunity for Georgia to further develop winter sports in our country,” Giorgadze stated after the decision was announced by the FIS President.

The minister also noted that up to 70% of Georgia’s territory is covered by mountains.

“We do realize what responsibility it is to hold this event in Georgia and we will make it happen according to the highest international standards,” he added.

“We are looking forward to seeing you in 2023 in Bakuriani and Gudauri,” Giorgadze addressed the congress participants.
