Unstoppable Sherazadashvili Wins World Judo Championship

Nikoloz Sherazadashvili became the first Georgian man to win a gold medal at the World Championship in Spain.

In the final, Sherazadashvili played against Cuba's Ivan Silva Morales in a compelling contest, thanks to a spectacular ippon (equivalent of a knockout in Judo), in two minutes and 18 seconds into extra time. Silva had taken the lead with a waza-ari, the second highest score a fighter can achieve in judo, but Sherazadishvili drew level with 40 seconds to go until the end.

Nikoloz Sherazadashvili, 22, was born in Georgia but represents Spain and won the men's 90kg category, giving Spain its first-ever men's gold medal at the Judo World Championships.
