Georgia Sports Awards 2018
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport held a sports award ceremony on Wednesday.
The ceremony was attended by Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who presented Levan Kobiashvili, President of the Georgian Football Federation, with the award for "Best Manager." He also spoke to the audience, saying:
"I want to congratulate Levan and wish him success. It was really pleasant to have successful games of the national [football] team and it is very important to continue this success. We need a lot of joy. There are different types of sports here and I would like to thank everyone in the name of the capital. Happy Merry Christmas and Happy New Year - 2019 will be the year for each of you to succeed for our country. We are sure that we will always stand side by side, support sports development, and guarantee that the projects we have implemented have the outcome we desire and that this success has not come to us by accident."
14 nominations and 10 special prizes were presented at the ceremony, which attended by top level Georgian officials and included traditional dance performaces.
World record holder and Olympic gold medalist weightlifter Lasha Talakhadze was named the best sportsman of 2018. Last year's winner was two-time World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist heavyweight freestyle wrestler Geno Petriashvili.
Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze presented "Best sportsman" award.
