Nikoloz Basilashvili Kicks off Australian Open with Two Victories

Georgian tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili has got his Australian Open off to a good start, winning two matches.

The Australian Open tournament began on 8^th January. Basilashvili played his first match against American player Christopher Eubanks on 14^th January. Basilashvili beat the 170^th seed 6:4, 4:6, 7:6 (6), 6:3.

On 16 January, he faced Italian Stefano Travaglia, the 137^th seed. The five-set match resulted in another victory for Basilashvili: 3:6, 6:3, 3:6, 6:4, 6:4. 

Basilashvili’s will next play the 15^th Seed, Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas. It will be the first time the two players have met on the court.

Basilashvili, originally from Tbilisi, is seeded 20^th in the world according to the ATP rankings. It is the highest position of his career so far.
