Georgian Chess Team Wins Gold

The Georgian women’s chess team, Nona, has won gold at the European Chess Club Cup. The tournament took place in Skopje, Macedonia.

Team Nona stood out from the competition with their talent. All seven matches were won, including against the three strongest Russian teams.

Nona's Nana Dzagnidze scored 5.0/6 but her teammate Nina Batsiashvili did even better with a 5.5/6.

This is the second gold title in a row for Nona after winning in Bilbao in 2014. The team has had 15 consecutive wins, including the World Chess Championship.

“The tournament was quite high-level and difficult to win. Russia had three strong teams, one of which had Russian national team members. We won all the matches and showed a maximum result. We are very happy,” one of the team members, Nana Dzagnidze, commented.

The team will compete in the European Team Chess Championship in Iceland in November.
