Georgian Teams Can no Longer Compete in UEFA Europa League

From the 2021-2022 season, Georgian football clubs will no longer be able to play in the Europa League, in accordance with the new regulations developed by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

The reason behind such a decision is that the governing body of the European Football has significantly changed the structure of European championships. The format of the Champions League remains unchanged, while the number of participants of the Europa League group stage will be reduced by 16 teams.

Most importantly, UEFA has launched a third new tournament, the Europa Conference League, where football teams of a lower level will play.  In the 2021-2022 season, countries between 32-50 positions in the UEFA rankings will present one team in the Champions League qualifying phase, three teams in the Conference Cup and none in the Europa League.

Georgia is in the 47th position in the current UEFA rankings and 44th in the live rankings, which means that the Georgian teams will remain outside the Europa League.
