Eter Liparteliani Wins World Junior Judo Championship

Georgian team of junior judokas is coming back home with a gold medal from the World Judo Championships Juniors that took place in Marrakesh, Morocco. A member of the women’s team, Eter Liparteliani became the World Champion, winning all five of her matches.


On her way to the finals, the 20-year-old judoka, competing in the 57 kg category, defeated Andrea Karman from Hungary, Kaja Kajzer from Slovenia, Shannon Van de Meeberg from the Netherlands, Mimi Huh from South Korea. Going against Kanako Hakamata from Japan in the fight of the World Champion title, the Georgian judoka won by ippon in 57 seconds.  

Eter Liparteliani is the first Georgian judoka to have won the World Judo Championship.

Appreciating her talent and success, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze published a post with Liparteliani’s picture on his official Facebook page.

“I would like to congratulate our praiseworthy Eter Liparteliani on winning the title of the World Champion. I would like to congratulate Georgia on the tremendous success of the first Georgian female judoka,” reads the caption of his post.
