Georgian Boxer Crowned World Champion

Professional boxer Lasha Gurguliani won the World Super Welterweight Champion title in Tbilisi on Sunday!

The Georgian boxer defeated Edgar Ortega of Mexico in the 8th round at the event organized by the Georgian Professional Boxing Union and Boxing Group Promotion at Tbilisi, Vera Garden Basketball Hall of Fame.

While Ortega endeavored to gain advantage, it was Gurguliani who took control of the fight from round one. In round three, Gurguliani scored a knockdown, until in the end the referee waved it off in round eight.

Prior to the confrontation between Gurguliani and Ortega, 12 matches were held with the participation of Georgian boxers.

Beating Greece's local star Andreas Valavanis (13-1) last year, scoring six knockdowns along the way, 29-year-old Gurguliani secured himself the title of World Boxing Federation (WBF) Boxer of the Month for May 2019.
