Georgian Climbers Pioneer Caucasus Chaukhi Peak
For the first time in history, Georgian mountaineers conquered the Caucasus' Javakhishvili Peak in Chaukhi. The peak is categorized as a 5 on the scale of difficulty.
The mountaineers climbed the peak in severe weather conditions. Four climbers spend two nights on the wall and it took additional 24 hours for them to reach the peak.
The climb was a first in history of reaching the peak in winter for Georgian mountaineering.
The group included famous Georgian climbers: Bidzina Gujabidze, Irakli Gujabidze, Ilia Belurava and Zurab kvestadze.
The United Mountaineering Federation of Georgia took part in other important expeditions as well. They climbed Ushba three times, one of the most notable peaks of the Caucasus Mountains, including high-speed climbing, in which the team set a new record.
