Georgian Shotokan Karate Team Wins Big Israel
ORAKIVA, Israel - Georgia's Shotokan Karate team will return home from the 2016 International Cup in Orakiva, Israel with six gold medals and one silver to add to this year's awards.
The under-20 youth squad finished first in the competition with three of its competitors capturing gold.
Andria Karbaia from the 11-12 year-old squad, Irakli Khochava for the 13-14 year-old age bracket, 15-16 year-0ld competitor Tengiz Mazmishvili and Levan Geldiashvili in the adult group all won gold in the kumite fighting category.
“My team and I were very happy with the results. Our success comes after we won the championship in Tehran this past February with two gold and silver medals”, Mzechabuk Makharadze told GEORGIA TODAY.
The Georgian Shotokan Karate Federation was founded in 2005 and has participated in International tournaments around the world.
The federation will play host to the Caucasus Cup on May 29 in Tbilisi.
