Georgia’s National Judo Team Wins European Championship

KAZAN, Russia - Georgia’s national judo team finished atop the leaderboard at the 2016 European Championship held in Kazan, Russia on April 21-24.

Nugzar Tatalashvili, Avtandil Tchrikishvili and Varlam Liparteliani defeated host Russia 3:2 to crown Georgia as Europe’s Judo Champions for the eighth time.

On its road to the gold, Georgia defeated Hungary 5:0, Greece 4:1 and Poland 4:1.

Georgia’s judo team hauled in 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals in the individual contests, while Vazha Margvelashvili and Liparteliani were named individual European Champions.
