Top 100 Spot For Georgian Tennis Ace
Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili took the title at the 23rd edition of the Sport1 Open held in Scheveningen in the Netherlands.
The Georgian player survived a gruelling three sets to come out on top against the Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in a remarkable finale with scores 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 6-3.
For his victory Basilashvili won 6150 euros and entered the top 100 tennis players in the world, up from his previous position of 118th.
When speaking of his victory Basilashvili said “With this title, I reach the top 100 for the first time. This means so much to me.”
The 23 year-old tennis player mainly competes on the ATP Challenger Tour. These events are the second highest level of competition and players who succeed can earn sufficient ranking points to qualify for the ATP World Tour Tournaments.
Basilashvili currently occupies the 90th spot in the live ranking.
