EYOF: Latest Results

Two Georgian judokas, Zurab Kakhiashvili and Temur Nozadze, won bronze medals for the Georgian national team at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) 2015 in Tbilisi.

Zurab Kakhiashvili was the first Georgian to win a medal, on July 28. The Georgian judoka defeated Czech Davit Vopat in the 50kg weight category by waza-ari. In the debut, he was penalized with shido but then he warmed up to gain yoko.

“It was a difficult round. I'm very happy to become the first medalist of the Georgian delegation. I will try my best to improve the results and gain only gold medals for my country,” said Kakhiashvili after the competition.

Later that day, Temur Nozadze also won a bronze medal in an intense struggle with Turkish Zehir Ugurcan in the 55kg weight category. “I am so happy. It was the hardest competition but I managed to do the final throw 9 seconds early. I'm not going to stop there, and from now on I will try to win only gold medals,” said Nozadze.

The Georgian tennis players continued on their winning streak with all four participants: Ana Makatsaria, Nikoloz Davlianidze, Ana Shanidze and David Chelidze heading through to the third round. However, the boys’ Georgian national basketball team has stepped out of the tournament after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina with a score of 74:81.

Runner Ciara Neville from Ireland won gold medal in the women's 100m. Among the boys in the same distance was Swedish Henrik Roger Larsson with the result 10.72.

The cycling race began on Tuesday with Johansen Graungaard Julius from Denmark taking first place. Italian Elena Pirrone also celebrated victory in the girl’s individual time trial along with Clara Copponi from France, who won the silver medal, and Lauren Dolan from Great Britain who will take home a bronze medal.

In swimming, Hugo Gonzalez de Oliveira from Spain struck gold in the boys’ 100m backstroke while silver went to Ireland’s Conor Ferguson and bronze to K-Ryls Miatti from France. Valeriya Egorova from Russia won a gold medal in the same category.

The second day of EYOF 2015 in Tbilisi was also successful for the boys’ artistic gymnastics team from Great Britain, who won the first gold medal for their country, beating competitors from Italy and Russia, who took silver and bronze medals respectively.

According to the latest updates, the Russian national team has so far won nine medals, keeping it in first place two days in to the EYOF 2015 competition. Italy is in second place with eight medals and the Republic of Moldova is in the third place with three gold medals.
